“This is why a woman needs three men, one for the bedroom, one to hang out with, and one to listen to all my problems including the problems I have with the other two men.” – Lady standing in line at the grocery store
I slightly chuckled as I listened to this lady speak to her friend about relationships. I recalled a similar conversation I had with friends a few weeks ago about monogamy. The ideal of monogamy when talked about in the context of “long term” the words “hard” and “questionable” were used frequently.
My married friends often used the phrases “Possible, but hard” with the occasional “Temptation does exist” adding a kind of “to be expected” variable that often test the strength of a monogamous relationship. Perhaps this seemly lackadaisical belief in monogamy is due in part to social media? With access to millions of people from your cell phone perhaps it is becoming increasingly difficult to narrow one’s choices?
Maybe its due to the length of time it takes to get established with one’s career, life, or personal goals. Whatever the reason as someone who believes in monogamy, I would hate to live in a world were monogamy is only talked about in the past tense.
