*Coffee Break Discussion: “Wait, What You’re Married”

I’m going to give you the very short version to an even longer story. I figured if you find this story remotely interesting I welcome you to ask further questions in the comment selection below.  This was truly an unexpected encounter. I wish I could reveal the location however I believe it’s important to protect the identity of the other party. It started out as daily polite greetings a simple hello, how are you, followed by a causal smile.

I will admit I didn’t notice initially, but after a month of polite greetings, I noticed the eye contact began to last longer than usual. This was followed by sightly longer conversations. It quickly became apparently clear that I was being hit on.  I will admit I was attracted to the possibility of seeing where things could go. Under normal circumstances, I would have pursued. However, something inside me felt something was off about this situation.

With all the seemly flirtatious Innuendos, I couldn’t shake the fact I was never asked any personal questions about who I was. What would come to realize is that sometimes people don’t asked you personal questions because they don’t want to open the door to reveal personal information about themselves.

The title of this post gave away what I would later learn. To be honest, I’m not sure the details on how I learned about the marriage is important. I think Maya Angelo said, when people tell you who they are believe them. I would add to that by stating always listen to what people don’t reveal about themselves or in the case don’t ask of you.

    • BE PART OF THE NARRATIVE

I learned about the marriage during a conversation on an unrelated matter I said “I don’t know what your situation is if your married or have children” the reply I received, “I have both.” I honestly felt manipulated. I was angry and I avoided the person for a few weeks afterwards. But I didnt want to feel manipulated so I moved passed the feeling. The conversations afterwards between us was awkward and we never talked about the awkwardness or the manipulation I felt.
