A blog, an online magazine, a journal, examined further it becomes a project, an objective, a mission. Be Part Of The Narrative is a collection of men’s narrated experiences so come and be part of the narrative.

Be Part of the Narrative is a single grassroots attempt at stimulating an internal dialogue within men of all ages, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientation, race, color, and religious creed for the purpose of encouraging self-reflection. Self-reflection is gaining an awareness of your habits. Habits are characteristics that were either obtained or dismissed; completed or uncompleted actions consistently taken that influenced the trajectory of your life. It is that which has allowed you to reach where you are at this exact moment.

Through the art of journal writing submitted by you the reader, it is the hope that these journal entries will create an online library housing a collection of men’s narrated experiences. It is the hope that these narrated experiences will encourage men to share the importance of identifying who you are; for the purpose of developing healthier relationships and deeper connections with yourself and others.

*Be Part Of The Narrative Journal Entry: “My Doppelgänger”

Damn I really need to spend less time staring into this mirror. The clone that lives in its  reflection is relentless in its efforts.

No longer will the judgments of the reflection own the rights of the image.

Warning signs alerting unsolicited cautionary advice beckoning me to walk away from you.

I’m unfamiliar with this side of me, but I’m now free, relieved, and no longer trapped in a cycle that primary was feeding into the manipulations of the person staring back at me.

*Coffee Break Discussion: “Is Monogamy Realistic? Or Are Relationships Simply On Demand?”

“This is why a woman needs three men, one for the bedroom, one to hang out with, and one to listen to all my problems including the problems I have with the other two men.” – Lady standing in line at the grocery store

I slightly chuckled as I listened to this lady speak to her friend about relationships. I recalled a similar conversation I had with friends a few weeks ago about monogamy. The ideal of monogamy when talked about in the context of “long term” the words “hard” and “questionable” were used frequently.

My married friends often used the phrases “Possible, but hard” with the occasional “Temptation does exist” adding a kind of “to be expected” variable that often test the strength of a monogamous relationship. Perhaps this seemly lackadaisical belief in monogamy is due in part to social media? With access to millions of people from your cell phone perhaps it is becoming increasingly difficult to narrow one’s choices?

Maybe its due to the length of time it takes to get established with one’s career, life, or personal goals. Whatever the reason as someone who believes in monogamy, I would hate to live in a world were monogamy is only talked about in the past tense.

*Random Thoughts & Occurrences: “This Week”

We have so many demands that often we find little time to take care of ourselves or do the things we prefer to do. Time is precious and I was thinking about this when I decided to write this Random Thought & Occurrences entry. So I have taken a collection of what I like to call “This Week.”  “This Week,” is a list of things I have heard the people who are around me say are a list of things they needed to do but for some reason they weren’t able to complete. I’m thinking about creating a new series entitled “This Week” where I will follow my own or someone else one “This Week” item to determine if the weekly objective was accomplished and if not why.

This week will be different. This week I will stop smoking. This week I will kick ass at the gym. This week I will eat healthier. This week I will open myself up to the ideal of finding love. This week I will be happy.

Wait! Damn it! What am I saying! I almost forgot. This week will be a stressful week, I have a deadline at work.  This week I have to drop Jacob off at soccer practice so no time for the gym.

This week I won’t have time to cook so I guess we are having take out again. This week I can’t go out on a date, I’ll be too exhausted by the end of the week. Damn, (sigh) let me check my schedule to see if I’m free next week.
